This marble Vertumnus and Pomona sculpture work are named The Abandonment, or Vertumnus and Pomona, or Shakuntala. Based on an Indian drama, is about the reunion of Saquintara and her husband after a long separation due to witchcraft, and it was created in marble around 1905.
In terms of shape, one of the two people is standing and one is kneeling. One is bowing his head and the other is looking up. They cuddle tightly together, and the ambiguous atmosphere came to the fore.
The work Vertumnus and Pomona is completed by Rodin’s lover, French female sculptor Camille Claudel. In 1884, Claudel entered the studio of Auguste Rodin as an assistant under the recommendation of Boucher. Compared to Rodin, Claudel’s sculptures have softer lines and a more balanced relationship between men and women. But in the later period, because of the breakdown of her relationship with Rodin, Claudel destroyed most of her sculptures, and only about 90 of them survived. Therefore, her sculptures are very rare and precious.
